Everyone needs a little sympathy from time to time. Tea with sympathy is a spiked cup of tea, perfect for when you’re not feeling well or after a long day. While you can use any tea you’d like, I made a pineapple ginger blend with tons of honey—a blend to target all the colds and allergies flaring up, because it is that time of year!

Pineapple is good for coughs, honey is good for sore throats, and ginger is great for digestion. Add a splash of bourbon and you are good to go! You can enjoy this beverage hot or cold. To serve cold, allow the tea to cool to room temperature then chill in the fridge for a few hours and serve over ice.

Pineapple Ginger Tea with Sympathy

Ingredients

  • 10 oz. fresh pineapple juice
  • One piece ginger root (about 2x2 inch piece)
  • 3 Tbsp. honey
  • Juice from ½ lemon
  • Pinch cinnamon, optional
  • 3 oz. bourbon
  • Lemon slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice ginger into ¼ inch pieces.
  2. Place ginger in a pot with pineapple juice and 2 cups water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, and simmer for about 10-15 minutes or until tea has a strong ginger flavor.
  3. Turn off the heat and add in honey, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Use more or less honey depending on your preference.
  4. Pour 1.5 oz. bourbon into two teacups.
  5. Strain tea into cups, garnish with lemon, and enjoy!
